What to Expect

Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City is a congregation of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. We are a traditional and liturgical church, and our worship life is centered around God’s gifts for us in the Word and Sacraments. Redeemer is a kind and welcoming family of believers in Christ.

I've never been to church before. How does this work? Do I make a reservation? Do I just show up?

You can just show up! There is no need to make a reservation or to call beforehand. We have space for you, and we often have people just show up.However, you might feel more comfortable if you talked with us before arriving.Even if you don't talk with us before coming, you are welcome here.

How do I dress?

People at Redeemer wear anything from their “Sunday best” (suits and dresses) to more casual clothes like jeans and a t-shirt. Wear what you are comfortable with and what you believe is respectful to God and those around you.

Are children welcome?

While we do have children’s Sunday School in the Bible study hour before the service, we encourage children of all ages to worship together with their families. Worshipping together as a family is incredibly important for bringing up children in the faith. We offer a cry room in the back of the sanctuary.

What about communion?

At Redeemer, we practice closed communion. This means that only members of our church and members of other Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod congregations may commune at our altar. We believe that in Holy Communion, we receive the very body and blood of Christ for the forgiveness of our sins. St. Paul warns that someone who receives communion without believing that it is the true body and blood of Christ receives it not to their benefit, but to their judgment. “For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself” (1 Corinthians 11:29). St. Paul also says that our participation in Holy Communion is part of our unity of faith and doctrine in the Body of Christ. “Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:17). Because of these verses, we offer communion to those who share our confession of faith. If you would like to commune at our church and are not currently a member of a congregation of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, we would be happy to instruct you in the doctrine of the Lutheran church, and then you would have the opportunity to become a communicant member of our church.

Where do I park?

We have ample onsite parking.

An Invitation from the Pastor

As the pastor of Redeemer Lutheran, I would like to personally welcome you to visit us. At Redeemer, we experience God’s amazing gifts for us: sinners are made holy through the preaching of the Gospel and the forgiveness of sins, God speaks to us through His Word, and God is present among us in His Word and His Sacraments. You can experience this surrounded by a loving community of believers in Christ. There’s no more powerful experience on earth.

God’s blessings,

Pastor Chris Warneke
